Opening ceremony and the super special tonight. Might as well follow along. Live broadcast !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (in Spanish), live Rally Radio !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
22:15 ET: Next live stage is reported to be stage 4, scheduled to run at 11:08 ET tomorrow. I'll provide a live video link when I have one and, if possible, do another live feed of the action.
22:09 ET:
And that's the end of the opening stage. Here's the event standings after the opening super special. Atkinson dug himself a decent hole with that stall:
1) Ogier - 0:52.9
2) Tanak (WRC2) - 0:53.2 (+0.3)
3) Mikkelsen - 0:53.3 (+0.4)
4) Meeke - 0:53.5 (+0.6)
5) Latvala - 0:53.7 (+0.8)
6) Neuville - 0:54.0 (+1.1)
7) Østberg - 0:54.2 (+1.3)
8) Hirvonen - 0:54.3 (+1.4)
9) Kubica - 0:54.6 (+1.7)
10) Bertelli (WRC2) - 0:55.2 (+2.3)
11) Gilbert (WRC2) - 0:55.7 (+2.8)
12) Fuchs (WRC2) - 0:55.9 (+3.0)
13) Guerra - 0:56.0 (+3.1)
14) Evans - 0:56.4 (+3.5)
15) Protasov - 0:56.5 (+3.6)
15) Prokop - 0:56.5 (+3.6)
17) Rendina (WRC2) - 0:58.9 (+6.0)
18) Trivino (R) - 0:59.1 (+6.2)
19) Linari (WRC2) - 0:59.6 (+6.7)
20) Salgado (R) - 1:00.0 (+7.1)
21) Bestard (WRC2) - 1:01.4 (+8.5)
22) Cordero (R) - 1:02.6 (+9.7)
23) Zea (R) - 1:03.3 (+10.4)
24) Martinez (R) - 1:04.0 (+11.1)
25) Orduna (R) - 1:10.5 (+17.6)
26) Atkinson - 1:17.6 (+24.7)
22:06 ET: Nope. What a letdown.
22:05 ET: Will the sweep ambulance do the donut?
21:54 ET: Shenanigans on the WRC Radio feed. Sounds like Becsy and Colin will be bringing Lisa back some cowboy boots. They may or may not end up being pink.
21:52 ET: WRC and WRC 2 are done but there are still more cars starting in the lower classes. Lots of Mitsus and Subarus. Good to see those cars still out racing on the big stage.
21:48 ET: Here's some more times: Gilbert 0:55.7 (11th), Rendina 0:58.9 (17th), Linari 0:59.6 (19th), Bestard 1:01.5 (20th). That completes the WRC 2 class.
21:47 ET: HOLY BALLS! OTT TANAK SECOND FASTEST OVERALL IN A R5 FIESTA! 0:53.2! Just 0.3 behind Ogier!
21:44 ET: Times have stopped updating. Seems like this happens at least once every rally. Usually they manage to fix it before too long. Here's to hoping...
21:39 ET: Fuchs just behind Bertelli with a 0:55.9. Next up is Tanak
21:38 ET: Bertelli one-ups Protasov with a 0:55.2, 9th fastest overall.
21:36 ET: Good time for Protasov. Ties Prokop for 12th with a 0:56.5
21:34 ET: Atkinson's stall costs him 20 seconds, finishes the stage in 1:17.6. That's the last of the WRC-spec cars, WRC 2 cars now, starting with Protasov.
21:32 ET: Local boy Guerra does a 0:56.0, cheering at finish lasts a full minute before it subsides enough for Colin to do an interivew
21:31 ET: Chris Atkinson goes 50 feet off the start line and the car dies. He manages to refire it.
21:30 ET: Kubica eighth fastest with a 0:54.6
21:29 ET: Guerra nearly takes his wheel off on a curb!
21:26 ET: Prokop the new slowest, 0:56.5
21:25 ET: The girls in the background at the finish are screaming louder than tweens at a Bieber concert. I approve of this
21:25 ET: That blast through the tunnel will NEVER stop being cool
21:24 ET: Thierry Neuville does a 0:54.0, slots into fifth
21:23 ET: Gravel tires + cobblestone roads = ALL THE SIDEWAYS!
21:22 ET: Evans now slowest with a 0:56.4
21:20 ET: Hirvonen slowest (sixth) so far with a 0:54.3, 0.1 behind Ostberg
21:19 ET: Three rallies in and the M-Sport livery is still sex
21:18 ET: Meeke takes third with a 0:53.5.
21:17 ET: Meeke jerky and uncertain around the roundabout. Probably lost a few tenths, fortunately not a big deal here on the super special.
21:16 ET: Mikkelsen jumps into second with a 0:53.3
21:15 ET: Unsurprisingly the British M-Sport team still uses British Peltor helmets
21:14 ET: Ostberg does a 0:54.2, slots into third.
21:12 ET: Ogier through in 0:52.9, takes lead
21:10 ET: Latvala through in 0:53.7. What a great looking stage! Love the loop around the roundabout!
21:08 ET: JML IN THE STAGE!
21:07 ET: So far everyone's rocking Stilo helmets. I remember back when Peltor was the god of head buckets. Most drivers are wearing HANS neck restraints, but Østberg had a Simpson Hybrid. I now like Østberg a little more.
21:01 ET: Ok, the giant turntable on the start podium is a nice touch.
20:53 ET: National anthem! Almost go time. First car off at 9:00.
20:50 ET: The co-driver in the 0 car is getting antsy. Also he's texting. Suddenly I feel like I'm looking at myself
20:46 ET: Holy Crap! Blue Man Group is performing at the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for Rally Mexico! Also I wish I knew Spanish...

I don't understand Rallying (or spanish) but I'm finding watching this enjoyable. I assume this is something along the lines of "drive this course as quickly as possible?"

Precisely that. Imagine this: take your favorite driving road. Close the road. Get the fastest, craziest bastards you can find, and have them drive the road one at a time to see who can get the fastest time. Now get 24 more roads and repeat. Fastest cumulative time at the end of the weekend wins. That's a rally.

Because it doesn't go in circles and you can't watch it from a bleacher seat with a burger/beer stand a hundred feet away. Therefore it's not popular in the states.
